Terraform Import Existing Resource: Ultimate Guide @vexpert #vmwarecommunities #homelab #100daysofhomelab #Terraform #TerraformImport #ConfigDrivenImport #CloudInfrastructureManagement #Terraform1.5 #EC2InstanceImport #TerraformState #terraformstate
Infrastructure as code (IaC) has become a standard for managing complex IT infrastructures. Terraform, a key player in the IaC sphere, is quite familiar to DevOps engineers and developers alike. One of the essential commands within the Terraform toolset is the terraform import command allowing the import of existing resources. There are some challenges with the legacy terraform import command.…

Remember that 737 MAX whose door plug blew out in flight?
A boeing whistleblower created a burner account and reported the following (reproduced here in its entirety in case the original gets deleted):
Tumblr media
Current Boeing employee here – I will save you waiting two years for the NTSB report to come out and give it to you for free: the reason the door blew off is stated in black and white in Boeings own records. It is also very, very stupid and speaks volumes about the quality culture at certain portions of the business.
A couple of things to cover before we begin:
Q1) Why should we believe you? A) You shouldn’t, I’m some random throwaway account, do your own due diligence. Others who work at Boeing can verify what I say is true, but all I ask is you consider the following based on its own merits.
Q2) Why are you doing this? A) Because there are many cultures at Boeing, and while the executive culture may be throughly compromised since we were bought by McD, there are many other people who still push for a quality product with cutting edge design. My hope is that this is the wake up call that finally forces the Board to take decisive action, and remove the executives that are resisting the necessary cultural changes to return to a company that values safety and quality above schedule.
With that out of the way… why did the left hand (LH) mid-exit door plug blow off of the 737-9 registered as N704AL? Simple- as has been covered in a number of articles and videos across aviation channels, there are 4 bolts that prevent the mid-exit door plug from sliding up off of the door stop fittings that take the actual pressurization loads in flight, and these 4 bolts were not installed when Boeing delivered the airplane, our own records reflect this.
The mid-exit doors on a 737-9 of both the regular and plug variety come from Spirit already installed in what is supposed to be the final configuration and in the Renton factory, there is a job for the doors team to verify this ā€œfinalā€ install and rigging meets drawing requirements. In a healthy production system, this would be a ā€œbelt and suspendersā€ sort of check, but the 737 production system is quite far from healthy, its a rambling, shambling, disaster waiting to happen. As a result, this check job that should find minimal defects has in the past 365 calendar days recorded 392 nonconforming findings on 737 mid fuselage door installations (so both actual doors for the high density configs, and plugs like the one that blew out). That is a hideously high and very alarming number, and if our quality system on 737 was healthy, it would have stopped the line and driven the issue back to supplier after the first few instances. Obviously, this did not happen. Now, on the incident aircraft this check job was completed on 31 August 2023, and did turn up discrepancies, but on the RH side door, not the LH that actually failed. I could blame the team for missing certain details, but given the enormous volume of defects they were already finding and fixing, it was inevitable something would slip through- and on the incident aircraft something did. I know what you are thinking at this point, but grab some popcorn because there is a plot twist coming up.
The next day on 1 September 2023 a different team (remember 737s flow through the factory quite quickly, 24 hours completely changes who is working on the plane) wrote up a finding for damaged and improperly installed rivets on the LH mid-exit door of the incident aircraft.
A brief aside to explain two of the record systems Boeing uses in production. The first is a program called CMES which stands for something boring and unimportant but what is important is that CMES is the sole authoritative repository for airplane build records (except on 787 which uses a different program). If a build record in CMES says something was built, inspected, and stamped in accordance with the drawing, then the airplane damn well better be per drawing. The second is a program called SAT, which also stands for something boring and unimportant but what is important is that SAT is *not* an authoritative records system, its a bullentin board where various things affecting the airplane build get posted about and updated with resolutions. You can think of it sort of like a idiots version of Slack or something. Wise readers will already be shuddering and wondering how many consultants were involved, because, yes SAT is a *management visibilty tool*. Like any good management visibilty tool, SAT can generate metrics, lots of metrics, and oh God do Boeing managers love their metrics. As a result, SAT postings are the primary topic of discussion at most daily status meetings, and the whole system is perceived as being extremely important despite, I reiterate, it holding no actual authority at all.
We now return to our incident aircraft, which was written up for having defective rivets on the LH mid-exit door. Now as is standard practice kn Renton (but not to my knowledge in Everett on wide bodies) this write-up happened in two forms, one in CMES, which is the correct venue, and once in SAT to ā€œcoordinate the responseā€ but really as a behind-covering measure so the manager of the team that wrote it can show his boss he’s shoved the problem onto someone else. Because there are so many problems with the Spirit build in the 737, Spirit has teams on site in Renton performing warranty work for all of their shoddy quality, and this SAT promptly gets shunted into their queue as a warranty item. Lots of bickering ensues in the SAT messages, and it takes a bit for Spirit to get to the work package. Once they have finished, they send it back to a Boeing QA for final acceptance, but then Malicious Stupid Happens! The Boeing QA writes another record in CMES (again, the correct venue) stating (with pictures) that Spirit has not actually reworked the discrepant rivets, they *just painted over the defects*. In Boeing production speak, this is a ā€œprocess failureā€. For an A&P mechanic at an airline, this would be called ā€œfederal crimeā€.
Presented with evidence of their malfeasance, Spirit reopens the package and admits that not only did they not rework the rivets properly, there is a damaged pressure seal they need to replace (who damaged it, and when it was damaged is not clear to me). The big deal with this seal, at least according to frantic SAT postings, is the part is not on hand, and will need to be ordered, which is going to impact schedule, and (reading between the lines here) Management is Not Happy. 1/2
2/2
However, more critical for purposes of the accident investigation, the pressure seal is unsurprisingly sandwiched between the plug and the fuselage, and you cannot replace it without opening the door plug to gain access. All of this conversation is documented in increasingly aggressive posts in the SAT, but finally we get to the damning entry which reads something along the lines of ā€œcoordinating with the doors team to determine if the door will have to be removed entirely, or just opened. If it is removed then a Removal will have to be written.ā€ Note: a Removal is a type of record in CMES that requires formal sign off from QA that the airplane been restored to drawing requirements.
If you have been paying attention to this situation closely, you may be able to spot the critical error: regardless of whether the door is simply opened or removed entirely, the 4 retaining bolts that keep it from sliding off of the door stops have to be pulled out. A removal should be written in either case for QA to verify install, but as it turns out, someone (exactly who will be a fun question for investigators) decides that the door only needs to be opened, and no formal Removal is generated in CMES (the reason for which is unclear, and a major process failure). Therefore, in the official build records of the airplane, a pressure seal that cannot be accessed without opening the door (and thereby removing retaining bolts) is documented as being replaced, but the door is never officially opened and thus no QA inspection is required. This entire sequence is documented in the SAT, and the nonconformance records in CMES address the damaged rivets and pressure seal, but at no point is the verification job reopened, or is any record of removed retention bolts created, despite it this being a physical impossibility. Finally with Spirit completing their work to Boeing QAs satisfaction, the two rivet-related records in CMES are stamped complete, and the SAT closed on 19 September 2023. No record or comment regarding the retention bolts is made.
I told you it was stupid.
So, where are the bolts? Probably sitting forgotten and unlabeled (because there is no formal record number to label them with) on a work-in-progress bench, unless someone already tossed them in the scrap bin to tidy up.
There’s lots more to be said about the culture that enabled this to happened, but thats the basic details of what happened, the NTSB report will say it in more elegant terms in a few years.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We've been talking about technological marvels of vehicular engineering for weeks now so today, we're gonna keep the trend going and talk about one of the most important engine in the motoring world where being small doesn't mean its weak and yes, you guessed it right. We're gonna go thru some of the famous production cars Mazda ever made with this dinky but potent engine and that's the "brapmobile" wankel rotary engine nicknamed the "dorito" engine.
Pic from left to right, top to bottom in a zigzag pattern: Felix Wankel himself -> Half-cut of the Mazda Rotary engine -> Mazda 110S Cosmo -> A slight modified Mazda RX-3 -> IPRA "Forty Winks" FB RX-7 driven by Cameron van den Dungen -> FC RX-7 -> a modified Mazda Cosmo 20B -> Fujita Engineering/FEED modified FD3S RX-7 -> 2008 facelifted RX-8 R3
Felix Wankel, the original designer of the engine, had found the conventional engine abit bulky thus he decided to design an engine that would be small but still produce the same hp as a conventional inline engines or even higher than them in a smaller package. Thus he designed such an engine in the 1950s and it showed great foresight. Unlike normal engines where it uses a camshaft to drive the pistons, Wankel's engine uses two triangular plates spinning around a center shaft to do all the necessary action to ignite and propel the engine in a small package thus making it light, compact but powerful. But, Felix would have no place to manufacture the engine thus he would eventually get NSU to collab with him and build the engine to be used for road cars. NSU did indeed like the engine and would buy the right from Felix and produce the engine to use for their own cars. Mazda was trying to build a sports car since the 1950s and early 60s but found out that their engines were not working as well as they hoped and they can't combat the weight either. They would somehow hear about Wankel's rotary concept and after finding out that NSU had bought the manufacturing rights to the engine concept, they went to NSU to buy the licensing right to make the engine too and surprisingly, NSU agree to sell and Mazda quickly got to work with their newest baby.
Mazda would design a real sleek and low slung sports car in 1963 and would build the rotary engine to go with the car. What Mazda cranked out was a 1L 2-rotor engine mated to a 4 or 5spd manual gearbox in RWD config. Mazda would also realize that the rotary was somehow superb and optimal for racing as despite it lacking any form of displacement on paper, the lack of a cam to drive several pistons meant that the rotors themselves are spinning rather quickly at each revolutions that despite the engine feeling like it was gutless, it could actually hold its power well across the rev range and could also hold revs higher than normal piston engines. Thus, with the 1L 2-rotor now coded as the 10A, it made 110hp and Mazda would show the car to the public in 1964 Tokyo Motor Show. Mazda would keep working on the car till fit for production in 1967. Mazda would eventually name it as the "Cosmo". Mazda would make two versions of the original Mazda Cosmo with the Series I and II. I has the original 110hp engine whereas the Series II was the upgraded version with the same 10A engine but with more hp at 125hp. Mazda would take the car racing for an endurance race at the Nurburgring and despite not winning, one of the two cars they brought to the event got 4th place. They would also race locally and would do rather well. Mazda would eventually sell over 1200 units in total from 1967-1972.
Mazda would switch up the recipe and change the Cosmo 110S into a new model and in 1971, Mazda would launch the Grand Familia but the Grand Familia has the inline-4 engine as its base. However, Mazda still wanted to try out their rotary engine and would take the Grand Familia coupe, put in a new rotary engine and sell it again as the Mazda Savanna in Japan but internationally as the RX-3. Mazda would increase the displacement of the rotary engine and make it into the 12A where it made 120hp. Mazda would also make 3 different variants of the RX-3 with subtle upgrades each time with the Series I, II and III. Both Series I and II would come with the 12A unit from 1971-1976 whilst the Series III would use a newer and more reliable 12A which now becomes the 12B rated at 115hp which is lower than the previous rotary engine but its still potent enough from 1974-1978. On paper, the RX-3 was somehow lacking in performance but somehow, when Mazda took it racing, it was a total show out. Nissan would dominate the tacks in Japan with the RX-3 by winning its debut race in 1971 at the Fuji 500 and it would also dominate in Australia where it would win the Barthurst 1000 for two years straight from 1974-1976. It had way lesser hp than anything the Australians had set to race the Mazda with and yet lost. The RX-3 would also dominate in America in both the SCCA and IMSA series. Tuners would also discover that the car was easy to tune and play around with thus it also became a very likable car for tuners and hashiriyas (Japanese term for "street racers").
Mazda by the late 1970s would split their sports car line from the normal models lineup and would eventually design a whole line coded as the "RX-7" for their new sports car line starting with the SA22/FB. Mazda would also make 3 different series with the 1st gen RX-7. The Series I would be made from 1978-1980 and would be equipped with the 12A engine rated at 110hp. Mazda would make the car as light as they can and as small as they can whilst fitting the engine behind the front axle to create a near 50:50 balance which would be a trademark for the RX-7. Mazda would launch the Series II with some design changes and would also change the code from SA22 to FB coding. The FB had flushed bumpers and was abit longer than the SA22 but was somehow lighter. Not only that, the 12A also saw a power bump to 140hp for the Japanese trim and Mazda would make the Series II from 1981-1983. Mazda would once again update the 1st gen RX-7 with the Series III for just one year from 1984-1985. This time, Mazda would test out the new 1.3L 13B 2-rotor engine in the Series III FB which makes 130hp. Design outlook would not change too much from the other two series. Mazda would also test out turbocharging the rotary thus in 1983, they would turbocharge the 12A 2-rotor engine without an intercooler rated at 170hp and put it back into the Series II chassis and sell it as the "RX-7 Turbo". However, it would be real hot on the market for the RX-7 Turbo as Mazda would soon switch to a newer model. The 1st gen RX-7 would kill it on the race track, especially in the US in the IMSA and SCCA series where the SA22/FB would dominate the IMSA GTU class since its debut in 1979 by winning the class championship 7 years in a row and would also win the GTO class multiple times. The SA22 would also perform extremely well in the Australian racing scene like the RX-3 and would also be proven to be well-loved by tuners.
Mazda would roll out the 2nd gen RX-7 as the "FC" in 1985 and would use modern styling cues to design the new car, taking cues from the 300ZX and also the Porsche 944 and 928. Mazda would also use the 13B as the base engine for the RX-7 onwards and as with new models, stuff would also be changed. Cornering capability was improved as the rear live axle design was swapped to independent rear suspension and the brakes were also improved massively as piston caliper brakes were standard from the FC onwards. Multiple series would be made also across the FC life cycle with subtle changes here and there but there wasn't much of a change. Mazda would also start selling the FC with the turbo as standard more and more during the life cycle of the FC. The FC which now, the turbocharged model being called the "Turbo II" was fitted with a turbocharged 13B unit rated at 205hp. Just like the FB, the FC would also dominate the racing scene once again in IMSA and SCCA with this time Mazda entering the FC into the GTO class and once again Mazda dominated the class for 8 years straight. Mazda would produce the FC from 1985-1992.
Whilst Mazda split the sports car line away from their normal line, Mazda had kept the Cosmo line running but instead of making it into their sports car line, the Cosmo namesake became the GT lineup for Mazda and it has been going on the same way since the 70s. In 1990, Mazda launched the new Cosmo coded as the JC under their subdivision, Eunos. To complement the car, Mazda would put two engine choices for the car with one being the 13B but this time with two turbos making 250hp and another being an all-new 20B 2L 3-rotor also with twin turbos making 280hp. Mazda would also become the 1st in the automotive industry to have a GPS navigation system fitted to a car and on top of that revolutionary gadget, it was also filled with multiple gadgets like a central touch-screen panel for the climate control, a car phone and TV panel, things that are hard to find in Japan and not only that, hard to find in a normal vehicle. Mazda would make the JC Cosmo from 1990-1995.
Mazda would launch the new RX-7 as the FD3S in 1992 and this time, only the sequential twin turbo 13B was used in the car as the only engine choice. The 13B was carried over from the JC Eunos Cosmo and the turbos would activate at different points where the smaller turbo would activate at a lower rev range then build boost and kick the bigger turbo to spool at the higher rev range, giving it a rather linear power delivery propulsion in theory. Just like the other RX-7s, its nimble and light but unlike the other RX-7s, it was wider than usual thus the FD3S would be taxed at a higher rate in Japan. Mazda would produce the FD3S from 1992-2003 and like the other previous generation of RX-7s, would also see multiple series being made with not much changes across the years but in 2001, Mazda would launch the Barthurst R version as the final version of the RX-7 to commemorate their victories in the Australian racing scene and to top it off and end the model series with a bang, they would also launch the Spirit R and RZ model as final editions where all 3 would see a power bump to 278hp.
Mazda by 1999 had known that the RX-7 would be killed off the production lines by as early as 2002 thus they started to redesign a new car to take over the RX-7. With the Eunos Cosmo also dead by that time, Mazda has decided to design a two-in-one car and they would eventually call it as the RX-8. Unlike the RX-7 where it was a 2-seater sports car, the RX-8 features rear suicide doors and was made in the 4-seater configuration. Mazda would also change the engine formula. Mazda would retain the 13B but instead of keeping the turbos, Mazda would ditch it and kept the engine for the new RX-8 as an NA 13B unit this time recoded as the "Renesis" which would make 235hp. Mazda would start selling the RX-8 in 2003 and Mazda would update the model with a facelift in 2008 and would keep selling it till 2012. However, despite winning tons of awards and accolades, the RX-8 was fraught with problems since launch. With the lack of turbos, the hp figure was lower than the old RX-7 and due to it being heavier now being a 2+2 seater, many would complain that the speed was slightly lacking which was more pronounced on race tracks. Not only that, the Renesis was also known to be extremely unreliable and very oil hungry, a serious problem already known to the 13B but it seems to plague the Renesis even more which became a deterrent for buyers and a mockery for others. The RX-8 would also fail the emissions test for Europe in 2010 thus ending sales there and with plunging sales, Mazda would stop production of the RX-8 in 2012 in general making only 118,000 units total.
No one would have thought that a dinky engine would produce enough power to be used in a sports car and yet, Mazda did it and showed the world that "if you can't do it, we can" and show out they did. No one would ever say no to the "dorito" machine and also the sounds of "brap braps".

Nursing Staffing Services near Greater Noida, Gurugram
The Importance of Specialized Nursing Staffing in Greater Noida and Gurugram: Meeting Healthcare Demands
Greater Noida and Gurugram, two of the rapidly growing urban centers in the National Capital Region (NCR), have seen tremendous development in healthcare infrastructure in recent years. With the increasing population and a rise in health-related concerns, the demand for specialized nursing staffing has become crucial in these regions. As medical technology advances and healthcare facilities become more sophisticated, the need for highly trained nurses who can cater to the growing healthcare demands has never been greater.
Both Greater Noida and Gurugram are home to several multi-specialty hospitals, clinics, and healthcare centers. These institutions aim to provide quality care to the local population as well as attract patients from neighboring areas. However, one of the primary challenges faced by healthcare providers in these cities is the shortage of skilled, specialized nursing staff. Specializations such as pediatric, critical care, oncology, neurology, and intensive care unit (ICU) nursing require specific expertise and experience that general nursing professionals may not possess.
Specialized nursing staffing plays a pivotal role in meeting these challenges. The need for trained nurses who can effectively handle complex medical cases and provide personalized care has led to a surge in demand for such staff. Hospitals and healthcare providers in Greater Noida and Gurugram must therefore focus on recruiting and retaining specialized nurses to ensure that patients receive the best possible care.
The growing focus on personalized and patient-centered care is another factor that has driven the need for specialized nursing staff. Nurses trained in specific areas of care can ensure that patients receive timely and accurate treatment while improving patient satisfaction. Moreover, the presence of highly skilled nurses improves the hospital's reputation, attracting more patients and contributing to the local healthcare economy.
To meet this demand, hospitals are increasingly relying on staffing agencies such as Config Infotecht, which specialize in providing healthcare professionals. These agencies help to bridge the gap by offering flexible staffing solutions and ensuring that hospitals have access to the right talent when needed. As healthcare facilities continue to grow, the role of specialized nursing staffing will remain vital in meeting both current and future healthcare needs.
How Nursing Staffing Services Improve Patient Care in Greater Noida and Gurugram Hospitals
The quality of patient care in hospitals and clinics is directly influenced by the proficiency of the nursing staff. In Greater Noida and Gurugram, where the healthcare sector is expanding rapidly, the importance of skilled nursing professionals cannot be overstated. High-quality nursing staffing services have a profound impact on patient outcomes and the overall healthcare experience.
A primary aspect where nursing services play a significant role is in patient monitoring and care coordination. Specialized nurses have the expertise to assess patients, identify symptoms, and make informed decisions that can positively affect the outcome of treatment. Whether it's managing a patient's post-operative recovery, administering medications, or providing support to families, skilled nurses contribute to improving clinical outcomes.
Moreover, specialized nurses are often integral to multidisciplinary teams within hospitals. These teams work together to create personalized care plans for patients, ensuring that each individual receives the most appropriate treatment for their condition. The integration of specialized nursing staff enhances communication within the team and promotes collaborative decision-making. As a result, patients in Greater Noida and Gurugram receive more comprehensive and accurate care.
Patient satisfaction is another area where quality nursing services make a difference. Compassionate and knowledgeable nurses have the ability to ease patients' anxieties and improve their experience. Nurses often serve as the primary point of contact between patients and doctors, making them vital in facilitating communication, explaining treatment plans, and providing emotional support. This improves the overall quality of care and leads to better patient outcomes.
The availability of specialized nurses also helps healthcare facilities stay competitive in the increasingly crowded healthcare market of Greater Noida and Gurugram. As patients seek the best possible care, they often look for hospitals that offer a comprehensive range of services, including specialized nursing care. Hospitals that invest in high-quality nursing staff are more likely to gain patient trust and loyalty, enhancing their reputation in the local community.
Navigating the Challenges of Nursing Staffing in Greater Noida and Gurugram: Solutions for Healthcare Providers
While the demand for specialized nursing staff is clear, healthcare providers in Greater Noida and Gurugram face several challenges in meeting this need. The shortage of trained professionals, high turnover rates, and increasing operational costs make it difficult for hospitals to maintain a consistent and qualified nursing workforce. To address these challenges, healthcare providers must adopt strategic solutions to secure and retain specialized nursing talent.
One common solution is outsourcing nursing staff through agencies that specialize in healthcare staffing. Agencies like Config Infotecht have become invaluable partners for hospitals looking to fill staffing gaps quickly and efficiently. By working with agencies, healthcare facilities can access a pool of qualified nurses without the long recruitment process, thus ensuring that patient care is not compromised.
Outsourcing also offers flexibility for healthcare providers. For example, hospitals may experience seasonal fluctuations in patient volume, such as during certain health crises or holidays. Temporary staffing arrangements allow hospitals to scale their workforce according to demand, reducing the strain on existing staff while maintaining high standards of care. Additionally, outsourcing nursing staff allows hospitals to focus on their core operations, such as improving treatment outcomes and expanding services, without being bogged down by recruitment and human resources tasks.

Re-Architecting the Flurry Mobile App for Android - Part 2
January 10 | Ali Mehrpour, Principal Android Engineer
Flurry’s engineers work with multiple, large scale custom systems. In an effort to further give back to the engineering and app development communities, we will periodically publish posts that cover more technical issues. Ali Mehrpour, one of our lead Android SDK developers, wanted to share some of his findings in rebuilding Flurry’s mobile app using the latest developments in Android technology.
In Part 1, we discussed the earlier version of Flurry’s mobile app and some of the issues we encountered with the Model-View-Presenter (MVP) design pattern. In Part 2, we’ll share some findings we learned while migrating to a new architecture.Ā
Moving to a New Architecture
Over the years Android architecture evolved to support complex, robust, production-quality apps on any scale. Recently, Google made Kotlin a first-class language for writing Android apps and introduced Jetpack, which is a suite of libraries, tools, and guidance to help developers write high-quality apps easier. We benefited from all of these new technologies while developing the new Flurry mobile app.
Tumblr media
Flurry Mobile App Architecture - MVVM
From MVP/MVC to MVVM
We’ve chosen MVVM (Model-View-ViewModel) for the new version of Flurry’s mobile app. We found several resources online that explain MVVM well, but why did we choose MVVM?Ā
In MVVM, the view only depends on the ViewModel to get data and directly observes changes in the model using data-binding. Therefore, the view gets completely decoupled.
In MVC, there is a triangular relationship between the components (the Controller owns the View and the Model) but in MVVM, think of this triangle flattening out with each component only knowing about one another in the chain. Ā That is: View -> ViewModel -> Model. The Model is unaware of anything up the stack. The ViewModel is only aware of the Model. The View is only aware of the ViewModel - it is unaware of the Model.
In MVVM, the presentation logic is handled by the ViewModel, meanwhile, in MVC or MVP, this responsibility is barely clear.
With MVVM, we are basically distributing responsibilities in a better way to reduce dependencies and make the code easier to test and debug.
Android Architecture Components
These components Google released a couple of years ago make our life easier when it comes to implementing MVVM patterns on Android, as well as achieving more robust, maintainable and easier to test apps:
LiveData. LiveData is a lifecycle-aware observable data holder class. It respects the lifecycle of the app component such as activity or fragment and makes sure only to notify app component observers when they are in the active state
ViewModel. It stores and manages UI-related data in a lifecycle conscious way. It exposes data through LiveData observed from the view. The ViewModel class allows data to survive configuration changes such as screen rotations
Room is an ORM (Object Relational Mapping) library that converts SQLite tables to Java/Kotlin objects automatically. It allows SQL validation in compile-time and returns RxJava, Flowable and LiveData observable
Repository handles data operations. It provides a clean API so that the rest of the app can retrieve data easily. Only the Repository knows where and how to get the data (encapsulated). Data can be fetched from a remote service, local database or cache.
Kotlin
The new app is completely written in Kotlin. There are a lot of benefits in using Koltin, plus we saw an opportunity for the team to try Koltin in a real application.
Dependency Injection
Dependency Injection is a programming technique that makes a class independent of its dependencies. It achieves that by decoupling the usage of an object from its creation and provides reusability of code, ease of refactoring, and ease of testing. It also reduces the cold start time since there is no need to create objects in the app startup, they can be created lazily whenever needed for the first time.
It’s well suited for Android development. The available popular libraries for Android are RoboGuice, ButterKnife, Dagger 2, and Koin. We’ve used Dagger and Butterknife for object and view injections respectively. This post compares these libraries.
RxJava RxJava simplifies development because it raises the level of abstraction around the threading. That is, as a developer you don’t have to worry too much about the details of how to perform operations on different threads.Ā
In the new app, we’ve used RxJava for interacting between ViewModel and Model. Repositories return Observable and ViewModel subscribes itself to get data. As you can imagine, ViewModel can subscribe to multiple Repositories and combine their results into one aggregated LiveData object. The important part is that we should dispose of all Observables in ViewModel’s onCleared() since we don’t need the response when ViewModel is going to be destroyed.Ā
Also, we’ve used RxAdapter with Retrofit which each API returns an Observable/Flowable.
Config Driven
In order to address the product manager’s concern (the ability to update the app behavior on the fly), we came up with a config-driven architecture. In other words, the app reads a JSON config file on cold start and lays out the app UI and features (dashboard, metric, dimension) based on this config.
This config file gets updated periodically by using WorkManager (a component of Android Jetpack)
Other Libraries
Timber. Timber is a lightweight and extendible logging library on top of the Android normal Log class. You can install a different Tree for each build type (e.g. we log all error logs in the Flurry SDK only for release build).
MPAndroidChart. We’ve used MPAndroidChart library, a powerful Android chart library that supports line, pie, bar and many other charts.
Material Components. We’ve designed the app based on Material design guidelines and used available Material components such as FloatingActionButtom, Chips, and BottomSheet.
Retrofit. We’ve used the most popular networking library.
ThreeTenABP. This library is a lightweight adaption of the JSR-310 for Android and makes working with Date and Time a lot easier. E.g. converting a date from one time zone to another, and calculate the duration between two dates, etc.
What’s Next?
Now that we have successfully moved the new architecture, we will begin to address additional opportunities to optimize Flurry customers’ mobile experience, including offline mode and custom dashboard, as well as additional features that align with the Flurry web app. If you want to give the new app a try, you can download the app from the Play Store or App Store. Login using your existing Flurry account, or use our demo account with the username ā€œ[email protected]ā€ and password ā€œchaterifficā€.

How to Integrate Cypress with Cucumber BDD?
Tumblr media
The advent of the Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) framework has led to increased engagement of product owners in the product development process. BDD framework helps to achieve all the prospects of a technical or the business team. It puts great importance on the business value and needs. With BDD gaining importance, new test automation tools cannot afford to ignore this framework and so these tools offer the feature of testing using BDD framework.
In order to cover all the capabilities of Cucumber, Cypress provides and integration with the Cucumber BDD framework, and in this article, we will be discussing how the framework can be integrated with the Cypress tool so that you can take benefits of BDD framework using Cypress.
What is Cucumber BDD testing?
Cucumber is a Gherkin-based testing tool that supports Behavior Driven Development (BDD).Ā
Gherkin uses plain English language to write behavior scenarios. It offers a way to write test scenarios that anybody can understand, regardless of their technical knowledge.
Ā In BDD, users first write scenarios or acceptance tests that describe the behavior of the system from the customer’s perspective, for review and sign-off by the product owners before developers write their codes.Ā
Feature file:
These files contain Cucumber tests and have a ā€˜.feature’ extension.
Each scenario represents one test in the form of scenarios in the Given-When-Then form.
Step definition file:
The step definition file contains the actual code which stores the mapping between each step of the scenario defined in the feature file with a code of the function to be executed.Step definition files are .js files.Later during the execution of each test Cucumber scans the step definition file for each scenario mentioned in the feature file and executes the code.
What is Cypress?
Cypress is a JavaScript-based front-end testing tool used for web test automation.
Advantages of CypressĀ
Debuggability: Cypress helps you to debug your tests directly from familiar tools like Developer Tools.Ā
Automatic Waiting: The automatic wait feature of Cypress never add waits to your tests. It automatically waits for commands and assertions before moving on to the next step.
Fast and Consistent Results: Cypress tests run in the browser and so the execution is fast. Cypress also provides consistent and reliable tests that are flake-free.
Screenshots: Cypress helps us view screenshots taken automatically on failure.
Cross-browser Testing: Cypress supports cross-browser testing across five different browsersĀ Ā
Benefits of Using Cypress Cucumber IntegrationĀ
The integration of Cypress tool and Cucumber becomes a power pack solution for test automation. On one side you can cash in on the speedy execution of Cypress and on the other side you can use the BDD framework support provided by the Cucumber tool. The integration of Cypress and Cucumber is easy to set up as you need not set up or configure browser-specific drivers.
Steps to integrate Cypress with Cucumber and run your testĀ
1. To integrate Cypress with Cucumber you need toĀ  Install the cucumber plugin by running the following commandĀ
npm install –save-dev cypress-cucumber-preprocessor
2. Once the plug-in is installed you need to add this code snippet in the index.js file under the plugins folder. This will help in making the cucumber plug-in recognizable to other cypress files.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā const cucumber = require('cypress-cucumber-preprocessor').default
module.exports = (on, config) => {
Ā Ā on('file:preprocessor', cucumber())
Ā Ā Ā Ā }
3. Another important step you need to include is to inform cypress to recognize the .feature extension files of cucumber. You can do this by adding the following lines in the cypress.json fileĀ
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā {
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā "testFiles": "**/*.feature"
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā }
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā In case you want cypress to also recognize the .js extension then you need to add the following lines in the cypress.json file.
{
Ā Ā Ā Ā "testFiles": "**/*.{feature,js}"
}
4. Following this, you need to add the following in the package.json file
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā "cypress-cucumber-preprocessor": {
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā "nonGlobalStepDefinitions": true
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā }
5. Once you are done with writing your feature file you just have to go into the directory ../BDD-with-cypress-cucumber/cypressCucumber/Ā  and open the cypress dashboard, using the command node_modules/.bin/cypress open and run the test using node_modules/.bin/cypress run --browser chrome.
Ā To conclude, we can see that Cypress provides you the facility of running your tests in the BDD framework with ease.Ā  Using Cypress and Cucumber together helps you draw the benefits of both tools for your project. It also helps in increasing the test coverage and covering key business scenarios together.Ā Ā

Blockchain backend development
I might say this is the most logical part of the course. Coding this bit creates a skeletal foundation to your project. I could say it was a pain to get through it, mainly it being boring and the lectures were just talking about how important the programming logic used in this section, and that the experimentation part of this section is just limited.
You can’t play around with this section, just how simple it is. With the test driven approach in effect for this section, all you could do is to write some tests, get them to fail, and then code some logic to get them to pass.
Writing tests are easy within node.js languages, but implementing the code and logic was just really annoying. You will be destined to get some careless errors about some poor coding logic you used, or some fatal errors that corrupt your files. When I say ā€œcorrupt your filesā€, I really mean that they mess up the whole logic of the code, and all you can do is to sit there and scroll your eyes through some indigenous code that your feeble mind can't comprehend, only to discover that your code syntax was the one that was causing all the problems.
Well, the default code editor I used for this project was Microsoft Visual Studio on a Windows device…it takes at least 10 minutes to boot up, and to run the code it takes ages. Well, these problems disappeared after I changed to a non-windows device, which made things more productive.
Developing backend mostly requires coding with different modules, and different versions of that module. Well for example, we used Redis for PubSub implementation (which can be considered frontend, but heavy coding and logic is used), there are like different versions of Redis that Home-brew downloads. These versions have some differing syntax that affects code and logic. It was a pain to read the documentation, which was not elaborate, and to download the specific version (home-brew installs the latest version and the latest versions are generally unstable and they crash, redis-developers don't care enough).
Initially, when redis was not working in my terminal interface (I thought I can’t run redis on daemon, because the config file for it just threw up), I turned to PubNub for my PubSub implementation. It was straight forward to use, but it frequently crashed on my project, which led me to using redis again.
Most of my backend development was heavily supported by test driven development.
Thanks to stack overflow, bugs in my code were easily found. After about 3 days of work, my backend was ready. I fired it up and it worked considerably well.

So my not-a-cyberdeck monitor lasted about 12 hours before the second battery was red.
And I plan to have monitor power control. So that's good.
After consideration, I'm going with dietpi, not manjaro on this pi 400- terminal/ tui tools for configuration of wifi and such are important.
Continuing the no-mouse setup, I want a tiling window manager... configurable not to tile. A 10 inch 720p screen is not a multitasker. Qtile... refused to install, because known issues that nobody apparently cares to claim as theirs to fix - so usual dependency hell.
AwesomeWM comes equally well recommended - Lua is one of those languages that is Ugly But Bearable in my view. So now I need to figure out what I can safely tear out of this config - multiple desktops? No. Tiling? Everything that can be maximized will be. No vim-ery. I want my alt+tab lest I be driven mad.
I miss gnomes launcher already. That was good keyboard handling. Even if everything else was pricy.

WordPress vs. Shopify: Which CMS is Best for Small Businesses?
When deciding between WordPress and Shopify, it’s important to consider the primary focus of your business.
WordPress: Great for blogging, content-heavy websites, and custom design. With plugins like WooCommerce, WordPress can be used for eCommerce, offering high flexibility at a lower initial cost. However, it requires more maintenance and technical management than Shopify.
Shopify: Perfect for businesses focused primarily on eCommerce. Shopify provides all the tools necessary to run an online store, including payment processing, inventory management, and customer analytics. It’s ideal for entrepreneurs who want to focus on selling products with minimal technical hassle.
Conclusion: For content-driven businesses or those that need flexibility in design and functionality, WordPress is a top choice. For businesses focused on scaling eCommerce operations, Shopify is the more straightforward solution.
